January 18, 2004, the Chieftains came to Springfield, MO for a performance at Juanita K Performing Arts Center.  The Friday “Weekender” section of the newspaper interviewed the Chieftains and they put out a welcome to all Irish musicians in the area to meet with them for a jam session at 5:30pm before the show. 

That evening, 2 hours before the show began, we watched the Chieftains’ sound check, then Paddy Moloney met with us (about 12 musicians and 2 Irish dancers) to choose several reels that we would perform with them during their encore!  This was such and incredible experience I will never forget.  Paddy, Kevin, Sean and Matt signed my bodhrán.  Unforgettable – a chance of a lifetime.

We could not take pictures during the show, but we met with the band afterwards and had pictures taken then.  As soon as I can locate them I will get them posted.

This album is a collection of traditional Irish music including sing-along songs, dance instrumentals for the whole family, children and adults alike.

Good array of Celtic styles

As compilations go, it is sometimes difficult to gather songs from various artists and make them fit together. Coventina’s Well contains a colorful selection of vocals, instrumentals, ballads, comedy, and danceable Celtic tunes sure to please most everyone.

“singing, dancing everywhere”, the new album issued by Nancy Daily-Green is certainly the most objective release to come on the market in the last century. Aimed as it is at the younger generation of Irish music lovers it serves as an ideal introduction to perhaps the greatest folk music the world knows.

The tracks are all carefully chosen and beautifully executed and seem to grow naturally from each other in both the Irish and English Languages. The gorgeous melodic voice of Ms. Daily-Green coupled with her profound understanding of Irish folk-songs and traditional music has an inestimable bearing in this regard for in all tracks we have simplicity, musicality and above all, joy which is what any such album aimed at the young should be about. I am the woman from the family that told you about waiting a year to see you again so I could get your CD. My son who was sitting next to me, the redhead who covered his mouth while singing, to Dancing Sailor can’t stop repeating this song on your CD. He loves it so much. Not often I find great traditional Celtic songs, but a couple years ago, I met Nancy Daily-Green. I talked to Nancy recently. She was telling me about her trip to Ireland where she was able to find several of absolute gems that she put on her new album. ”Baidin Fheidhlimidh” is one such gem. Not only is it great Irish song sung in Irish Gaelic, but like much of her music it is something that is just enjoyable by children as adults. –Marc Gunn

Delia O’Halloran was the first neighbor I met on my initial visit to Ireland in Rosscahill, Co. Galway on the coast of Loch Corrib. It was my daily routine to visit Delia and share my travel adventures of the day, or I would occasionally chauffeur her to Oughterard so she could run errands. She was a very sweet, kind woman. She taught me how to prepare a turf fire in her hearth. Delia passed away in February 2008. I dedicate this album in her memory.
